Microsoft Teams can now answer your business phone with an AI agent
What it is: Teams Phone Agent, an AI receptionist built into Microsoft Teams Phone. It became generally available on 30 September and is rolling out now. It is set up in the Teams admin centre, on the same call flows as a standard auto attendant.
What it does: callers say what they need instead of pressing numbers. It holds a natural conversation in more than 60 languages and locales, including Australian English. It answers from FAQ files and web links you load, which refresh daily. It can book, reschedule or cancel appointments through Microsoft Bookings, and it routes the caller to the right person or team with AI-written notes, so whoever picks up knows why they rang. You can set different flows for business hours, after hours and public holidays.
How you could use it: an allied health clinic answers after-hours calls with opening hours, common questions and a booking. A wholesaler sends "where's my order" calls straight to the account manager with a note attached. It needs Teams Phone licensing, and usage is billed through Copilot Credits.
Owner takeaway: aged care and allied health operators already on Teams Phone should ask their IT provider this week to set up a test agent on the after-hours line and ring it themselves.

ChatGPT can now build a slide deck with your team and export it to PowerPoint
What it is: ChatGPT Slides, a presentation builder inside ChatGPT, released on 16 October. It lives in Space, ChatGPT's shared team workspace. It is separate from the ChatGPT add-in that works inside PowerPoint.
What it does: you start a deck from a conversation, your files or an outline, or share an example deck to set the style and layout. You edit text, images, shapes and charts yourself, or ask ChatGPT to make the changes. Teammates can edit the same deck at the same time and leave comments. You can present straight from ChatGPT. On the web you export to PowerPoint, PDF or Google Slides; the desktop app opens the deck in PowerPoint or Keynote.
How you could use it: a distribution business turns a new supplier's spec sheets into a sales deck for the reps, then exports it to PowerPoint. An office team builds the monthly management pack from last month's figures and a template. It is rolling out to eligible Pro, Business and Enterprise users with Space access, so check whether it shows in your account.
Owner takeaway: distribution and wholesale owners on a ChatGPT Business plan should give Slides one product spec sheet this week and check every number before a rep uses the deck.

QuickBooks brings AI invoicing and plain-English cash flow reports to Australia
What it is: Intuit Intelligence, the AI layer in QuickBooks, announced for Australia on 14 October. The new features are in beta for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Advanced customers.
What it does: three pieces matter for owners. Automations turns a recurring job you describe in plain English into a task that runs on a schedule, such as chasing invoices more than 30 days overdue. Autonomous Invoicing creates and sends invoices from a customer's documents, then handles the reminders. Conversational Custom Reports answers plain-English questions, including a forward-looking cash flow view built from your ledger history, bank activity and predictive modelling. Intuit itself says the AI can make mistakes.
How you could use it: an agri group with several properties asks for a cash flow view for the next quarter before a big input purchase, without exporting to a spreadsheet. A wholesaler sets an automation to chase overdue accounts every Monday. Intuit has not said whether the AI features cost extra in Australia, so check your plan.
Owner takeaway: agri and regional multi-site operators on QuickBooks Online should ask it for a 90-day cash flow view this week and compare it with their own forecast.

What I would do first
- Ring your own phone after hours tonight. If it goes to voicemail, that is the first job for an AI agent.
- Pick one deck or report you rebuild by hand every month. That is your test for Slides.
- Whatever the tool, check the numbers and keep a person on anything that goes to a customer.
